Flea Infestation

Recent weather conditions have caused severe flea/tick/mosquito overpopulation. Under theses conditions there is no single flea or tick product that solve this problem. We have found that a combination of products is necessary. For flea/tick control the following products and methods should be done simultaneously:

  1. A. Bathe or have animal groomed in a flea shampoo (Adam’s) and give a Capstar tablet (kills fleas within minutes).
  2. B. Apply Advantage, Advantix, or Frontline Plus after pet is dry. These products have a residual effect that kills any fleas/ticks that bite your animal for 30 days after application! Be sure to apply to skin – not hair.
  3. C. Spray your pet with Adams or Frontline Spray to aid in repelling/killing fleas/ticks/mosquitos as often as is necessary.
  4. D. Use Knockout foggers or Siphotrol premise spray in home. Vacuum all floors including carpet (steam cleaning works best to remove fleas, eggs, dead fleas, and larvae).
  5. E. You may notice what looks like grains of rice in your pet’s stool or around its anus. These are tapeworms and are caused by eating an infected flea. Have your vet treat your pet for these.
  6. These steps need to be repeated at 2-4 week intervals until you break the flea life cycle.
